Gel Transfer Paintings
I have been doing photo collage since the early 70s, and have always enjoyed the free and spontaneous way images can be created with that method. In the fall of 2009, I started a variation on this practice, and instead of relying on photo images alone, I began making original paintings that incorporated photo imagery. To more smoothly integrate the photo elements with the painted areas, I transfered the ink from the photo images to acrylic gel medium, so that the paper backing has been removed. Often the the photo images become transparent in this process, and show the painted areas underneath.
Because I can do these much more quickly than my usual original paintings, the prices are substantially less, most are closer to the cost of my prints, and offer an affordable way to collect my original paintings.
